Best Pet Tricks to Teach Your Pooch

Last updated 1 year ago

Dogs have many excellent qualities, including endless playfulness and a fierce sense of loyalty; But, let’s be honest with ourselves—the absolute best thing about owning a dog is teaching it how to do tricks.  For a list of some of the better pet tricks out there, keep reading:

Stay

Technically speaking, this is a command and not a “trick,” but it is an essential stepping stone to further doggie discipline that is very useful in itself.  If you can get your dog to park itself without moving for minutes at a time, then you can start teaching him how to balance things on his head.  Not only will this provide you both with hours of entertainment, but if you also happen to be a decent photographer, then it can help make you internet famous.

Play Dead

Teaching your dog to play dead is pretty much the equivalent of teaching a third grader to do the dead man’s float at the local swimming pool: It’s entertaining as all heck, but it can make others worry!  While this trick is sure to goad some great reactions, it’s always quite handy when you need a timeout from non-stop playtime.  Tell your dog to play dead and give yourself a five minute break.

High Five

This trick is an essential part of any dog’s repertoire, especially if your dog happens to be huge.  Nothing helps make an animal seem less intimidating to children and cat-people alike than exchanging a high five.  This trick is your dog’s ticket to social acceptance and cuddles from strangers.
